Thunder Hill Raceway 7.7.10

A small private event was hosted by our friend Alex Loi for his birthday at Thunder Hill in Willows, CA. The last time I was there our friend Roni Tacuyan flipped his EK hatch after turn 1. The event turn out was good, not a lot of cars, but plenty of track time for everyone. I was posted at Turns 5 and 9 at the hills taking pictures in the morning before it got super hot out. There was 1 crash the whole day at the last turn, there is a video of it from the car behind, I will try to find it online later on. I was excited when the novice group came out to track because that is where the funny stuff happens. The novice group were spinning out, understeering, and bunching up everywhere. Our own Jimmy Uy and Matt both tracked their cars, Matt in the Crown Vic and Jimmy in his hatch (yes he tracked his little show piece). Overall it was a great, but tiring day. The Shop San Bruno’s Annual BBQ

Just to recap on yesterdays events, it was a great success. By 11AM it was about 75-80 degrees out, needless to say it was a great day for a BBQ. We had a good amount of people show up with their cars, guys from ATS and WyldKardz to name a few. The BBQ lasted into the evening until the last oysters were gone. The day was filled with cars, food, and great company. If you missed out on this BBQ, we hope to see you next year as we celebrate another year in business. Thanks to everyone that came through to make this BBQ a success, and those that had a hand in organizing and putting it together.

SPOCOM USA San Mateo recap and pics

For those that didn’t go to the SPOCOM show, you missed out on a nice show. The show wasn’t too big, it wasn’t too crowded. Definitely the ladies out numbered the cars, it usually is a given though. Some of your favorites like Christine Mendoza and Elissa Alva were in attendance. Unlike Hot Import Nights, there were no flashy lights, no rice rockets, all the cars were tasteful. If you didn’t know, there were a couple of screening events for cars to be in the show, and I know a couple of people whose cars were not chosen to be placed in the show, so the cars were hand chosen.

The day started off early, I met up with some folks before we all headed to San Mateo for set up.

Alright, I got the photos on the site, check out the gallery or just flip though pics here… your choice. On another note, I just found out that Matthel’s LS1 RX-7 received 3rd place Mazda, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Just to recap for those that missed out… The garage was PACKED, lots of music, lots of people, and a ton of cars. You also have some familiar faces like Lisa Kim Flemming and Ashley Vee. And also, NEVER have I seen so many people with DSLRs, it was crazy. Anyways on to the pictures…

Wekfest 2010!!!

What a show!!!! So many cars and so many more people. The show was a success and the roll in went pretty smooth. Some teasers will be up tonight and the rest of the pics will be up by tomorrow, too many pictures to go through and edit. Also, the photo shoot that we did for Brian’s S2K will be up later tonight. If you were at the show and saw Brian’s car, along with the photos from the shoot were there. Mr. Jimmy Uy completed his car at 2am the morning of the show, so congrats to him. It was a good thing that Matthel had me make him a display board for the show, his car seemed like the center of attention every time a group of people passed by. As I was leaving the show, the fire marshall was heading into the garage, I wonder if it was passed the max occupancy of the garage… Any ways stay tuned, and check back here later tonight and tomorrow for A LOT of pictures…

SF Wek’Fest 2010

Bob’s Donuts Track Day 11.27.09

As you know, The Shop attended a track day on Black Friday, hosted by owner of Bob’s Donuts, Don Ahn. The event took place 4 hours south of the Bay Area at Buttonwillow Raceway. I rolled in with a couple friends and customers of the shop the night before because of the 7:30am drivers meeting. This was the most diverse track day that I have attended. There were your drifters, you had your Corvette drivers, BMW guys, and some Honda Challenge competitors. There was a Dodge SRT-10 truck driving around and Matt, in his Police Interceptor (long story short, the RX-7 wasn’t ready to be tracked). Moring sessions started with the drifters, they never cease to amaze me and they never cease to kick up dirt onto the track. since the day started late, they had to combine the novice, intermediate, and advanced group. We BBQ’d for lunch before the afternoon sessions begun. Towards the end of the day the wind picked up and the clouds moved in and started to drizzle, it wasn’t enough to stop the last session, but it made for some hairy conditions. I wan to thank Don for allowing me to get on track to take pics at the 1st and 2nd hills. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment for more please visit our gallery.

Boss Man’s Birthday

Yesterday was Matthel Ma’s birthday, if you don’t know him already, he is the owner and manager of The Shop San Bruno. Some friends, mechanics and long time customers of Matthel went out today for paintball fun at NorCal Paintball in Petaluma. It was a nice mix of experienced players, one of the being Matthel, and some newbies. At the end of the day we played a game of Terminator, for those that don’t know, it’s when one person plays against all. The Terminator cannot die and the game ends when they give up or they kill everyone on the field. Matthel and good friend Bud volunteered for that position. FYI Matthel is the one sticking out like a sore thumb, in the Hawaiian shirt. also the referees let me on the field with my camera, which I was a little weary about, but the pics came out awesome, flip through them below or visit our gallery.
